INTRODUCTORY COURSE ON BIOINFORMATICS (2° ED.)

Following the succesful 1° edition, the Polo d’Innovazione di Genomica, Genetica e Biologia, in collaboration with the University of Perugia, is organizing a week-long Bioinformatics course, which will consist of both lectures and practical exercises (hands-on) and will feature Italian and international scientists.

The course, which will be held from 20th to 24th October, 2014, is intended for researchers/professionals who aim to use Bioinformatics in their applications.

A total of 20 participants will be accepted and preference will be given primarily to postgraduate students and, if places are still available, to young postdoctoral researchers. The course will be held in English.

The following topics will be covered:

  • Introduction to the use of IT tools and Bioinformatics
  • DNA Sequence analysis and similarity searches
  • Bio-databases (emphasis on genome databases, e.g. ENSEMBL)
  • Ontologies (esp. the Gene Ontology/)
  • Genome projects
  • Next-generation Sequencing (NGS)
  • Gene expression and RNA profiling (microarrays and RNA-seq)
  • Structural Biology
  • Population Genetics (use of polymorphisms)

Applications should be addressed to info@pologgb.com and must be received by October 6th, 2014. Accepted applicants will be notified by October 10th. Applications should include a short CV and a 3 to 5 lines-long letter of motivation.

The participant fee will be € 300 for students/researchers and € 600 for professionals. Lunches and coffee breaks will be provided by the organization and are included in the fee.
